I'm not sure what you're really supposed to do when in Rome, but when in Seattle in mid-May, I'm learning that you eat Copper River salmon. Holy moly! It's quite a big deal out here. I'd seen all this fuss on the news yesterday that the copper river salmon was here (it shows up May 15'ish every year), so I decided tonight to stop by our local fish market on the walk home and pick some up for the Doyles. First off, it's $33 a pound. But, after grilling it up tonight, Terry and I are believers in the madness. It's delicious stuff. Check out the link I've put at the end here if you want more info...but basically, it's salmon that has worked very hard to get up the cold Copper River in Alaska, and as a result it's extra fatty and extra big (but apparently it's the good fat that will give us a nice shiny coat and extra brain cells, so we're feeling ok about the extra fat). And it's only available for 3-4 weeks, so I foresee the Doyles eating a lot of it in the next few weeks. Who knew? http://gonw.about.com/od/fooddrink/a/copperriver.htm
