Skateboard fever

Today Faedon took his scooter over to the local skateboard park...and while he thought it was a ton of fun to be able to scoot around the half pipe on his scooter, his eyes really lit up when the "big kids" took their turn on their skateboards - flying high in the air and doing lots of crazy tricks.

I think I have an idea of what Faedon is going to want for his birthday...

Cruisin'

Kellyn's favorite way to get around is still to crawl...but her second favorite way is now to push this walking toy around at top speed, crashing into all things who deign get in her way. Walking unassisted still holds relatively little interest to her...

A weekend in the woods

This weekend, we packed up and headed to the woods! One of our friends (who also has sons Faedon's age) invited us up to their family cabin in the woods near Mt. Rainier. Faedon got to run around with the boys (Gus and Ollie) exploring caves, shooting nerf guns and romping in the lake....while Kellyn enjoyed just being someplace new.

Cupcakes and presents

Here are some pix from the end of Kellyn's birthday fete. We had cupcakes and presents to end the day. Our present to her was this green bouncy pony named Roddy. Basically you can continue to inflate Roddy as she grows, and he will grow with her and she can bounce around the house on him for years to come. Adorable. And practical. We love it, she loves it, Faedon loves it. So I anticipate we may need to purchase a second Roddy in the future, so we don't have tears and a popped Roddy on our hands.

Kellyn is one!

So while Kellyn is taking her afternoon nap, I thought I'd upload a few quick pix of the birthday girl from her day so far. We went to Gasworks Park for a picnic lunch, and enjoyed a little sun and soccer and people watching (most interesting was a group of people practicing parkour around the park. It was kind of like martial arts mixed with dancing mixed with gymnastics, except more impressive. Hard to describe.).

Anyway, here is our little lady on her one year birthday. Later on tonight: cupcakes and presents! Faedon can't wait! Kellyn is just happy to be included.

And he's off...

A few weeks ago, Terry came home from Target with this Razor scooter for Faedon. Of course, I thought he was still too small to ride one of these successfully (it takes more balance than you might think!) but Faedon proved me wrong, as usual. He's been zipping around our back patio like a champ and we've even taken a few treks from our house to the top of Queen Anne.

Here he is today, flying down the sidewalks of Queen Anne like a little speed demon. My heart only stopped beating about 20 times. But he had the time of his life. Thank God for helmets!

Seattle was made for kids

Today we went to the Seattle Center - which is the park that houses the Space Needle. Surrounding the Needle are several great destinations...the Science Center (Faedon's personal favorite), the Experience Music Project, The Science Fiction Museum, the Children's Museum (Faedon's second fave) as well as a carnival called the Fun Forest, that is open from May through September. Oh, and there's an AMAZING water fountain that plays music and does all kinds of neat tricks. Needless to say, it's a wonderful place for families...and the best part for us is that it's only a mile from our home.

So today we went to the Science Museum (the feature exhibit was right up Faedon's alley - it's called Animal Grossology - and it features all things GROSS in the animal kingdom. Like leeches. And the 4 stomachs of a cow.) And then we hit the Fun Forest.

What a beautiful day. What a beautiful life.
