This past weekend we piled into the truck, dropped off the dog at doggy day care, and headed north. A last minute trip. We were gonna stay put and work on the lawn; then we thought, nah... let's go on an adventure.
We stayed at a place called Lake Quinault Lodge; smack-dab in the middle of the Hoh Rain Forest out on the Olympic Peninsula.
Right on the lake, with a view of the mountains on the other side.
We started with a view of the largest Spruce Tree in the world. Of course, the boys needed a bird's eye view.
Then, there were the trails. Faedon insisted he be first. Every step. In the sun. In the rain. Up the hills. Down the hills. Even when he insisted on being carried.
He raced back and forth touching mom (who was pulling up the rear) with one finger, and daddy (who was instructed to wait and don't move until he got back). Funny to watch.
Faedon takes the nature hike a bit too literally.
After getting car sick, he was good as new and ran off into the woods with just a jacket and his sandals. Poof, he was off.
Here, we see a rare sighting of the Momma Bear. Very rare. In fact, I had to rescue if from the trash...
Foxglove grows like Queen Anne's Lace and Chicory on the east coast. It covers the roadsides at every turn. Thrown away. A nuisance. Beautiful.
At the end of someone's driveway, a tree trunk gets a second life. Funny thing about this corner of the world -- creativity blossoms like weeds in the sidewalks. Nothing seems to stop it.
Finally, nearing the end of out trip, we sat on the beach and watched the fog roll in. Faedon threw stones. Mom sat in a chair and watched; hand on the baby. Daddy encouraged the boy to look, listen, and learn.
After this, we're all wondering what's next. Such a beautiful state.
