Green Pinkie Things

I don't think it's a great secret that Terry is the one in our family with the Green Thumb. Everything he plants flourishes. Whereas most things I plant tend to struggle a bit. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the fact that I don't buy into the idea that some plants need full sun and some need shade. I figure, if I like it, it will grow where I want it to grow, by sheer force of will alone. I am starting to realize, perhaps the laws of nature really do trump my sheer will. Sad.

That said, here is my first true success story since we moved in! We have a strange backyard that has a slope that is really hard to plant on. It gets a ton of sun and the soil is not so good. Not to mention it's not particularly convenient to water (another problem with my gardening style - I am an intermittent waterer). So this year, I completely tore everything out on the back slope and planted wildflowers from seed (and by "plant", I mean, I shook a can of seeds). Wildflowers are everything I like in a plant - hardy, pretty and very low maintenance on all fronts. And now they are starting to flower! Don't they look lovely?

And another success story - Aunt Dorothy sent us some roses to plant for Christimas, and I planted them in my little garden area, and they're growing!

Last, but not least, little Faedon is even having some planting success. He planted some grass seeds a few weeks ago in his new play area, and it's growing like mad!

So, while Faedon and I may not have Terry's level of Green thumb-ness quite yet - I like to think we at least have Green Pinkies...
